Generally, the first civil war, dictatorship, the triumvirate, the second civil war and the rise to power of Caesar, all this was a consequence of the crisis of the republic. Thus, Caesar’s youth was at the terrible times of civil war, in the era of proscriptions and dictatorships. When after the resignation, Sulla was walking around Rome, one young man threw a stone at him, Sulla said that because of people like him, the next dictator would not give up his power. The interesting story is related with his departure. Only thanks to the patronage of influential relatives Caesar received forgiveness.Īfter being the dictator a few years, Sulla renounced his powers in favor of the restoration of the republic. The military-political and literary activities of Caesar, his outstanding abilities, and finally, his bright personality attracted and attract historians. In the frame of such epithets and in the glare of such assessments, Caesar went down in history. He is an outstanding military leader, not less outstanding statesman, a versatile genius – the not challenged verdict of a number of generations. From there he worked himself up until he, himself became dictator of Rome.Julius Caesar is one of those rare elects of the history, whose image does not tarnish in the time, and whose fame is going through centuries. With no other way to provide for his family, Caesar decided to join the army. He was however no longer allowed to be a priest and Cornelia’s dowry was confiscated. He targeted Caesar, who fled Rome, but his mother’s family successfully convinced the ruler to lift his sentence. ![]() Sulla, the Roman ruler at the time declared himself to be dictator of rome and started to purge his enemies systematically. This led him to break off his current engagement with a plebeian girl and to marry Cornelia, a patrician and daughter of a the influential Lucius Cinna (member of the Populares). He got himself nominated as Jupiter’s High Priest, but was required to not only be a patrician, but to also be married to one. Caesar was already very ambitious and decided that his family would benefit most if he would become a priest. Rome at the time was very unstable, struggling to manage its influence and size.
